The pressurised basket a DeLonghi ships with hides grind mistakes and flattens the crema into foam. Swapping to a plain basket at the dose you actually pull is the cheapest real upgrade the machine will take.

A precision basket is machined to a stated dose and an even hole pattern, which is the difference between a repeatable shot and a lucky one.
Check your size before ordering. Portafilter diameter is stamped on most baskets, and a bottomless portafilter must match both the diameter and the lug pattern of your group head.
